18th century inlaid neo-classical marble mantelpiece attributed to Pietro Bossi 

The white statuary Carrara marble body inlaid with coloured scagliola, which forms a beautiful Etruscan style design.

Etruscan Style

The excavations at Pompeii and Herculaneum from the mid-eighteenth century inspired an elaborate style know as the ‘Etruscan style’ and deeply influenced the decorative arts for many years. The style manifested itself in all areas of the furnished interior, from plaster-work and wall coverings to mantelpieces. 

P.Bossi appears in the 1785 edition of Wilson’s Dublin Directory, registered as ‘in-layer of marble and stucco-worker’ with an address of 22 Fleet Street.
