Pair of console tables – AF029

Pair of Irish Walnut console tables with marble tops

Each of these very early Irish console tables dating from the 1720’s, feature a scrolled frieze with a clam shell in the centre. The canted legs have carved shells, acanthus leaf decoration and descending tassels which end in a paw foot. The slightly naive carving on the feet show that this may have been one of the first attempts at a “hairy paw” foot. The marble tops with moulded edges are  Fleur de Pêcher marble ” Peach flower”, rich in colour and quarried in Italy.

Circa 1720
